BLACKIE STEELE
DISCOGRAPHY
MUSICIAN AND COMPOSER
Age 5 to 18 - PIANO/GUITAR - The Royal Conservatory of Music
--A 13 year initial study of classical and religious music, resulting in several Music Degrees and Competition Awards. During my teen years I explored Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Disco, and older generational classic genres of music and began developing my own unique style. First piano was an 1880s Heintzman Upright Concert Grand.
Age 15
--Began music composition on piano. Became Pianist for family church, choir and Sunday School. Musical instruction included extensive sound and ear training. Was forced to play blind-folded for hours at a time on a regular basis for four years. Playing blind-folded is still something I practice to this day.
Age 16
--Began learning electric guitar. First guitar was a JG Semi-Acoustic Jazz. Began learning electric, acoustic, hawian and classical guitar. Began teaching my own piano students; Piano Teacher. Learned trumpet and french horn. Received placement with the Philharmonic Orchestra close to my home town.
Age 18
--Added drums, saxaphone and some traditional flute to musical agenda, and dumped trumpet and french horn, which I hated with a passion! Then dumped the sax and flute because of aumbersure problems. Explored a large variety of acoustic interests with natural instruments. Fell in love with Rock n' Roll, Heavy Metal, and especially with Rock Opera. Entertained my largest audience of over 60,000 people in London, Ontario CANADA, performing Mozart's Christmas Eulogy and my own composition "Wounded Knee" (composed at age 17), as part of a massive choir production participated in yearly by over 800 musicians. Was awarded Music Scholarship for best Student Musician in Ontario in 1982. Was offered my first recording contract for two compositions: The Exercise Song and Wounded Knee (both composed at age 17). My parents refused me this recording contract opportunity in favor for a Christian composition which was recorded without knowledgeable consent for financial charity profits for the local church.
Ages 18 to 23
--Left home. Temporary sources of employment during this time while seeking to support musical interests; cocktail waitresing, bar-tending, chef, modeling, hair and makeup, photography, secretarial, sale sof all sorts, and live theatre (included 'Mother Courage' produced by Arturo Fresaloni). Created an all female Heavy Metal Grunge Rock Band called Witch's Mercy. Composed all songs and lyrics. Performed underground for personal parties etc. Also volunteered with Animal Rescue Sanctuaries throughout Toronto to maintain connection to nature and animals. Played in many temporary musical dynamics but found myself out of synchronicity with the music scene, due to Rock Opera not really being a main stream popular music choice at the time. Women involved professionally in the Heavy Rock genre was still a relatively new thing, except for the preciously chosen few! Began working in recording studios.
Age 22/23
--Returned to teaching music, students for piano and guitar. Had been without piano for five years. Rented LeSage and dumped all love partners. Overcame addiction to alcohol and cocaine and prepared for A.R.C.T. music exam.
Age 22/27
--Worked as part-time Roadie and Light & Sound Technician. Gained experience as a Lounge Pianist. Found new creative outlet in Radio and Television. Worked for Graham Cable 10 Television Toronto, turned down offer from CTV Television for own talk show for reasons of discrimination and sexual harassment. Worked specifically for a talk television show called 'Psychic World' which I maintained for the next five years and eventually became a part of the cast. Owned and ran my own New Age themed gift shop, Crystal Clear Pathways, specializing in providing space for spiritual workshops and meditation environment, sales of local artwork, crystal, artisan jewelry, books, ritual supplies, cards, incense, candles, and anything funky and hippy-like! Brought an end to Witch's Mercy in 1987 due to not being able to find female musicians who could play their instruments any better than they're hair dryer.
Age 24 to 35
--Became a Mother, but continued career in Radio and Television until the show was relocated to Vancouver. Became a Single Parent, was forced to retire from public life due to separation from partner. Relocated to Ottawa and devoted myself to children entirely for many years. Time spent in personal development, spiritual growth. I became the The Hermit. Deeply explored my Aboriginal Culture and learned one traditional language. Wrote a book called "ONE LITTLE INDIAN BOY", a story about my brother's life and what it was like being a 60s Scoop Kid in an adopted cult family. Wrote "Wamblee Wakon (Grandfather Eagle)", a composition which took four years to channel. It was during my young 30s that I began to focus more on composing traditional women's aboriginal songs. Also worked with Husky Rescue.
Age 31
--Inherited 1887 Concert Heintzman Grand Piano I had grown up with. Had been without one again for over seven years. My 1961 Gibson SG Junior Electric Guitar was stolen out of my house while grocery shopping. Cosmic trade-off I guess! Undertook a three year study of Canadian Family Law, Police Sciences, Criminal Investigation and Profiling; won my child custody suit. Started my own Art business called The Leather Lady in 1996; worked primarily as a Crafter and Aboriginal Artist, specializing in Master Leather Craftsmanship, Painting, Beading, and Traditional Clothing and Accessories. In October of 1999 lost my business, workshop studio, all my Husky Dogs, my Aviary, and Heintzman Piano to a mysterious house fire. Instead of starting all over again once more, I became a Hermit and walked with Spirit.
Age 37
--Inherited a shit load of money, acquired a new Chickory Piano and had been without one for 2 years. Told everyone to kiss my ass, moved to British Columbia. Began working on music recording. Worked with RCMP Dog Training Unit and Husky/Wolf Hybrid rescue outfit. Encountered nothing but family cult problems and wasted lots of time running around Canada avoiding getting shot. Dumped the family. Dumped the money. Dumped the music.
Age 40
--Returned to Ottawa in 2004 due to Kamloops mountain fire epidemics which devoured any resources I had left. Became very ill due economic and spiritual crisis of every kind. Initiated an ongoing personal study of various medical, psychological and psychiatric studies. Just laid low.
Age 42
--June 2006 acquire Newcombe piano and began working once more on composition. Been without piano for three years, again. December 2006 finally completed new composition worthy of mention, 'My Only One".
Age 43 - 2007
--Newcombe Piano busted strings and out to garbage heap. Picked up BC Rich and was given an Acoustic First ACT Guitar. Returned to composition of Grunge Rock Metal and Rock Opera Music; focusing on guitar arrangements. Returned to lyric composition and self-prormotion of BlackieSteele. Initiated global project to promote 'Women In Rock & The Men Who Adore Us'. Undertook massive study of modern drugs and drug addiction in response to 'ghetto' issues. Lead to a further study of law, especially Guns & Gang Unit, gang activity and the structure of criminal groups. Resulted in the arrest and removal of gang members connected to Saudia Arabia and Africa from Canada.
Age 44 - 2008
-- Another very challenging year. Undertook in-depth study of Mind Control and Satanic Ritual Abuse and began working on my own healing journey concerning my childhood and teen years in an adoptive cult family. Traded BC Rich for SG Jay Tursor. Continue guitar compositions; over 25. Smashed the First ACT to pieces (that felt good). Relocated out of the ghetto and secured music/art studio. Acquired new piano.
There are some people I would like to openly thank and publicaly express my appreciation to, as follows:
1. I wish to thank a very special friend who is my PHANTOM and beloved RABBIT, for his continued and ongoing friendship and support, and much more. This is one wild ride you and I are having! Not only are you the 'Star" of my inspiration, but you are also my 'rock of love'! I love you forever and for always, and I will always play guitar with you! My Only One! Super-nova EVERYTHING to you, babe!
2. FRANK MANSON....it was you who gave me the First ACT acoustic guitar in August in 2007. Without that, none of this would be happening! Thanks so much and also for taking that punch in the face!
3. I have made many great friends on MySpace, and wish to thank especially THERA, STAMATIS, ROTT, WENDY, and CHAINSAW PATRICK for their continued and ongoing friendship and support.
4. A very special person who has done so much to assist me and my family and improve the quality of our lives in so many ways, KIMBERLY and NADINE....YOU ROCK! Thank-you so much for everything.
In today's world, I am primarily a Concert Pianist who really enjoys the hobby of rocking out on the guitar. I do not perform traditional aboriginal music but may add elements of my cultural background to my compositions. Regarding guitar, I am a 'rhythm player' foremost who is expanding into other areas of growth and improvement. I consider myself to be an Intermediate level player who still has a long way to go.
